The Parks Department plants
street trees, free-of-charge, on sidewalks in front of homes, apartment
buildings, and businesses in all five boroughs. In order to request a free
street tree please use the Parks Department's forestry
service request system
.
You can also plant a street tree on your own by
obtaining a Tree
Planting Permit. Due to certain street tree
height and species qualifications individual street tree planting most often
requires hiring a landscape contractor directly. To request a free permit
to plant a tree in front of your home, call 311. For one-stop planting and
permitting, the New York Tree Trust will work with you on selecting the species
and site and permitting and planting processes for a donation. Call (212)
360-TREE.
Once the new street tree arrives you can learn how to care for it by
attending a free workshop offered by the MillionTrees Stewardship Corps. At this workshop you can receive a free set of tools and
learn how to care for your new “neighbor.”Please visit the Community
