Stewardship of natural areas, helping newly planted trees to grow into healthy forests, is an essential part of MillionTreesNYC.
Volunteer stewards help ensure that invasive weeds do not overwhelm the new plantings and monitor young reforestation trees as they mature. Volunteers are trained in natural areas stewardship, invasive weed identification, and proper management techniques. Stewards must attend 3 training sessions and commit to volunteer 12 hours over the summer. For more information and to find out how to register for ongoing reforestation stewardship, please visit the Stewardship Opportunities website.
