To mark the launch of MillionTreesNYC, New York
City’s famed Empire State
Building is going green on
the evening of Tuesday, October 9, 2007.
Beginning at sunset, the world’s most famous skyscraper’s top 30 floors
will be lit-up green – with the lights shining bright until midnight. The green beacon of light is to serve as
a reminder to all New Yorkers of the importance of getting involved in what is
expected to be the nation’s largest and most aggressive urban tree planting
campaign in the nation’s history.
“Having the Empire State
Building go green in honor
of the MillionTreesNYC launch reflects the importance of the initiative for our
great city and its residents,” said Drew Becher, executive director of New York
Restoration Project. “We thank the
Empire
State Building for being a true partner in our
citywide efforts to plant and care for one million new trees throughout the
city’s five boroughs.
The Empire State Building Lighting Partners program is designed to
achieve public awareness for important charitable causes, celebrations and
holidays, as well as for the Empire State
Building and its
history.
