Million Trees NYC - A PlaNYC initiative with NYC Parks and New York Restoration Project
NYC Homeowners and family members adopt free trees in May

In celebration of New York City’s first ever MillionTreesNYC Month, 1,000 FREE trees were given away to homeowners and family members throughout the City’s five boroughs in May. Through the generous sponsorship of BNP Paribas—presenting sponsor of the month—MillionTreesNYC held hugely successful tree giveaways at four Council on the Environment of New York City (CENYC) Greenmarkets and the Riverdale YM-YWHA Environmental Fair. Each tree adopted, planted and cared for by a New York City family or individual will be counted toward MillionTreesNYC’s goal of planting one million new trees throughout the City’s five boroughs over the next decade. This is what some New York families and individuals had to say about our tree giveaways and about their newly adopted trees.

Andrew Steele, from Staten Island: “I got my tree in Staten Island and found the people there to be helpful and energetic. My new tree sits in a spot in my yard that I was planning to plant a tree in. I stare at it every day. I water it often, and I am happy with it. Great project!”

The Murphys, from Staten Island: “We felt the event was well run. Although the line for trees was long, it moved fairly quickly, and everyone was cooperative. The folks working the table were informative and friendly. The selection of trees was great. We love our new addition to our yard. Kudos MillionTreesNYC!”
