Almost two years have passed since MillionTreesNYC was launched by Mayor
Bloomberg and Bette Midler, and we are well on our way to planting one million
trees by 2017. In 2009 alone, Parks, NYRP, and many private partners have
planted nearly 77,000 trees. Over 25,000 of these trees were planted by
volunteers like you in forest restoration sites across the city. But we still
need your help!
On October 24, in coordination with
Partnerships for Parks’ It’s My Park Day, MillionTreesNYC welcomes volunteers to
help plant 20,000 trees in one of 15 locations across the five boroughs. We hope
that you will join us to dig in and help restore natural areas citywide.
We also need the help of advocates, organizers, and community members to help
us support planting and caring for these young forests, so stay tuned for
stewardship events and tree care workshops that will be organized throughout the
year. If you would like to become more involved in planting or caring for trees,
or organizing your community, please check out our Community
Calendar or visit our StewCorps page. We look
forward to seeing you out in the parks and natural areas of New York
City!
