Grow Our Grassroots Summit 2013
On March 16, NYC Department of Parks & Recreation Commissioner Veronica M. White and MillionTreesNYC Director Morgan Monaco joined Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, NYC Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Carter Strickland, and Chief Service Officer Diahann Billings-Burford to host the second annual "Grow Our Grassroots" summit. The day-long summit was organized to inspire New Yorkers to pitch in to help meet PlaNYC’s goal for a greener and greater New York. Participants were able to network with volunteers who are transforming the City through tree care, composting and stewardship, while sharing skills, receiving training, and getting a better understanding of how to access City resources. MillionTreesNYC Gives the Neighborhood a Little TreeLC
In January, MTNYC joined Parks horticulture crews, school children, West 150th Street Block Association, and volunteers in East Harlem and Rockaway to prune trees and tend to soil beds. Learn more

Postcard Notification Block Plantings
This fall season, MillionTreesNYC is mailing postcards to notify residents about new street trees that will be planted on their block. The postcard invites residents to help us care for their new leafy neighbors and offers simple tree care tips. Learn more…

2012 Wangari Maathai Planting Event - New York City Grows Greener By 20,000 Trees
On Saturday, October 27, New York City Parks Commissioner Veronica White joined National Parks of New York Harbor Commissioner Diane Chalfant, Gateway National Recreation Area Superintendent Linda Canzanelli, NYC Service Chief Service Officer Diahann Billings-Burford, New York State Senator Martin J. Golden, New York State Assembly Member Alan N. Maisel, New York Restoration Project Executive Director Amy Freitag, and more than 400 volunteers at the historic Floyd Bennett Field in Gateway National Recreation Area in Brooklyn to plant 5,000 new trees at the MillionTreesNYC Fall Planting Day. Over the course of the day, 20,000 trees were planted citywide. The day also kicked off 40th anniversary celebrations for Gateway National Recreation Center that will be on-going all year long. June 2012 Newsletter
Summer is just around the corner and included in our June newsletter are opportunities for volunteering in natural areas of parks, participating in tree care workshops, and our new Facebook campaign "My Tree NYC: Most Beautiful Tree Bed Contest"! New York City Grows Greener by 20,000 Trees
On Saturday, April 28, City Officials and more than 400 volunteers participated during the MillionTreesNYC Spring Planting Day at Conference House Park in Staten Island to plant 7,500 trees and 2,250 shrubs. Over 20,000 trees were planted over the course of the day in parks throughout the Bronx, Queens, and Staten Island. Read more…

Wangari Maathai Tree Planting
On March 30, Parks & Recreation Commissioner Adrian Benepe joined Columbia University professors Gayatri Spivak and Kenneth Prewitt to honor Nobel Peace Prize laureate Dr. Wangari Maathai by planting a new pine tree in her memory in Morningside Park. Read more…

MillionTreesNYC at The Point
MillionTreesNYC participated in the March Town Hall meeting organized by The Point, a not-for-profit organization located in the Hunts Point section of the Bronx. Hunt's Point is one of the Trees for Public Health (TPH) neighborhoods where MillionTreesNYC is concentrating street tree planting efforts. This gathering was designed to help inform the community about the many issues affecting residents and to get them involved by providing them information on various programs, projects and volunteer opportunities such as caring for newly planted trees!
